Participation only outside of work hours?

In the past this hackathon has been on weekends. I am not able to get time off work to come in person during the day Wednesday and Thursday, will I be able to participate if I show up after 5pm for Wednesday and Thursday or if I just work on it remotely until Friday? I'll be able to come in person for the judging during the day on Friday. Just want to ensure I'm not penalized for not being there in person Wednesday morning.
